Pause Service Updates for Production and Sandbox UAT in d365 F&O with LCS

Microsoft regularly updates the sandbox and production environments for d365 Finance and Operations to ensure that customers have access to the latest fixes and features.

However, there may be instances when you need to pause updates, such as when you're not ready to proceed with an update for some reason or testing is not done for a new service update.

In this blog post, we'll provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to pause service updates in d365 Finance and Operations using Lifecycle Services (LCS).

To pause updates, you need to be assigned to the project owner role in LCS, and the updates can only be paused for implementation projects.

If any sandbox and production environments in your project are four updates behind the latest update that Microsoft has released, you cannot use LCS to pause updates.

If you decide to pause updates, you have below options:

  • pause updates only to your production environment
  • pause updates to both your sandbox (UAT) and production environments

At any given time, you have the option to pause up to three consecutive updates.

To pause updates, follow these simple steps:

Step 1: To access the Project settings page in LCS, navigate to your implementation project and open it.

Step 2: Access the "Update settings" tab and find the "Pause Updates" section.

Step 3: Select the Pause upcoming update option and choose whether you want to pause updates to your production environment only, or to both your sandbox and production environments.

Step 4: Select your reason for pausing updates and add any additional details that will help Microsoft understand why you want to pause updates.

Step 5: Press the Confirm button to finalize the process.

Remember that updates cannot be paused indefinitely. When the pause duration expires, updates to the configured environments will be automatically resumed.

By following these steps, you can easily pause service updates in d365 Finance and Operations using Lifecycle Services (LCS).
